Finally, a genuinely excited, rowdy Norwich crowd!
Whilst the city succeeds in drawing both emerging and (some) top established acts, the lethargy of the Norwich audience is a constant bugbear. Bands, artists, performers et al are so often met with crossed arms and apparent indifference. So how wonderfully refreshing it was last night to see staff Benda Bilili threaten to raise the roof off Theatre Royal last night, accompanied by an audience, almost without exception, dancing, singing and shouting to the end of the night. Admittedly it took a slightly slurred cry of ‘they’re a dance band you know!’ from the murky back of the stalls to get things going, but for once this was all the encouragement needed to kick start an evening of music that felt like a real celebration. Well done NNF and thank you Benda Bilili for finally getting the Fine City dancing!
Amazing weekend of live literature at Norwich Arts Centre this week! I’ve heard there’s still a few tickets left for Hannah Walker’s wonderful ‘This is Just To Say’, get down to the arts centre quick- it’s not to be missed!
This is a still from a short film made in collaboration with film-maker Siobhan Fitt-Stirling to accompany my poem 18 Minutes and 33 Seconds. Editing is almost complete and I can’t wait to see the final result! In the meantime busy yourself by taking a look at Siobhan’s stunning short films and photography here
Smalls-Murray will be making a cheeky appearance at Varietease at the Norwich Assembly House on Saturday 21st May. Fine dining and live Burlesque, what more could you want!
Screen Test Norwich is now showing at the Forum in Norwich! The project is a collaboration between Smalls-Murray and the Norfolk and Norwich festival and I’m delighted with final outcome. Whether you made it down to recorded your own Screen Test, or if you’ve simply got 10 minutes to spare in the City, head to the BBC Fusion area of the forum - you won’t be disapointed!
